Friday Night January 14th, 2004 Mustang/Jack featuring James Graff At Guitar Safari Tallinn, Estonia
What a freak show!! Only 6 or so tables, no more! Half the crowd was the van full of drunks that we brought with us: Mart, Ulo, Liina, Tea, etc. and of course the drunks in the "band": Jack (Urmas Voe), Ax (Agu). Then there was one small table of musicians who had an original metal band - headed for England to make it big - who worshipped the likes of Zeppelin and Pantera (They kept requesting Cemetary Gates and buying me shots and beer after beer after beer - unfortunately I was driving the circus wagon home). They seemed to love us - especaily the soulful sound of my Les Paul through my Marshall.
Then there were the drunk Estonians (who were later thrown out and kept trying to come back in) blathering on in Estonian - one arm wrapped permanently around my neck - about buying me drinks (I kept attempted to say "No thanks, I am driving" which to them might have sounded like "Friedn thanks dricving for me get vodka and vana tallinn drinking is goods". But always an exesive amount of hand shaking. SCAREY!
And then there was the enormous drunk Finn asking for contact information - for what? I have no idea - maybe he had a band or a club or an all male sauna party - I don't know and I am not real sure I wanted to stick around to find out.
Then there was the hot, little "foxes" that sporadically ran to the dance floor when we played a song I had picked out - reggae or some other dance classic - who then immediately ran screaming when we went back to playing Urmas's list of favorites: "Head banging, ball busting ROCK! Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin (you get the idea)" Unfortunately the best looking "hotties" were most likely Tallinn Old Town Old Style HOOKERS - judging by the way the big, fat, ugly, old foreigners they were "with" kept grabbing their gooties, gluties and patooties!! Like I said FREAK SHOW!
We played the following originals (most of the lyrics are on our orignal's page of the Graff Brother's Band website http://www.hot.ee/graffband/originals.htm):
Forever You and Me,
Jus 4 Fun, Bad Rep,
I Luv Nymphs,
Come Down,
Never Goin' Back,
Monkey C,
which the crowd seemed to like more than the best covers we could come up with: more people danced and more people cheered!!
And then one of the only sober person there started packing up for the long drive home. The original band guys offered to "roady" for me when he saw that I was alone in my effort to get the he)) out of there as fast as possible. Then the other sober person there noticed us loading out and Liina and Meeli got the circus troop together for our grand staggering exit. 30 Songs and 30 chicken wings later (actually I only had about 4 myself) I had 20 dollars (!?!) pay in my pocket and we went speeding home - only 3 hours to Tartu!
